Lifeguard Certification Requirements

lifeguard certification training program is the key to becoming a successful and confident lifeguard. Our programs are designed to provide all individuals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to protect the public from harm and respond to emergency situations at aquatic facilities. The training includes an overview of lifeguard certification requirements as well as theoretical knowledge and practical skills that are necessary for lifeguards to be able to recognize and respond to water emergencies.
Our lifeguard training courses will teach you the fundamentals of lifeguarding, including modeling good safety behaviors, maintaining constant surveillance, enforcing pool rules, providing aid, and giving swim instruction. We also train and certify lifeguards to provide basic first aid and CPR. You do not need a current lifeguard certification or previous lifeguard experience to enroll in our courses. Our instructors and swim coaches will help you learn everything you need to obtain a valid lifeguard certification. However, there are several requirements you must meet in order to enter the program. Our requirements are as follows:
  • Must be 15 years or older
  • Must be able to swim at least 300 yards continuously
  • Must be able to tread water for at least 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Must be able to complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds, starting in the water
  • Must be able to surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point
